“SOSCONPH
2024: Weaving Tomorrow’s Techscape”
On October 12, 2024, I had the privilege of attending SOSCON PH 2024: Weaving Tomorrow's Techscape at the Novotel Araneta City in Cubao, Manila. The event kicked off with a registration call time of 8 AM and officially began at 10 AM, concluding around 5-6 PM. The day was filled with insightful discussions led by various speakers, including Yong Seok Park, Managing Director of Samsung R&D Institute PH, and Loisa Buenafe, Head of Learning & Development. They set the tone for an enriching day focused on open source technology and innovation.
I was really lucky to have gotten some talkings from a strong pipeline of speakers, which include: Myk Ogbinar, Jeffrey Kenneth Go, Jessan Rendell Belenzo, Dr. Rowel Atienza, Ph.D., Marc Jermaine Pontiveros, Nikko Yabut, Engr. Aunhel Adoptante, Tj Monserrat, Andoy Montiel, Jiggs Cabiles, and Dr. Gino Sampedro. Each one of the speakers delivered very enlightening talk about the open source journey, really trying hard on these themes of openness, innovation, and cooperation.
One of the most essential take-home lessons for me was the role of open-source AI as a way forward in the development of technology. Discussions about what open source software really is-its efficiency and interoperability and capability for innovation-were brought into light. But one would see just how important ethics play in open-source development, particularly how we can be even more ethical in our practice. I especially loved the mantra "Open Source = Accessibility" and the reminder to "be human-centered in your goals" and to "collaborate with anyone," without regard to technical background, to get diverse insights.
I also found some more practical open source tools that can benefit everyday developers-things like ComfyUI and OpenLLM-and enables robust development to move from task-specific applications to more advanced agent AI systems.
The SOSCON PH 2024 was held very nicely. At 300 participants, the event became a pleasurable one, and every guest could assuredly be provided with adequate service regarding refreshments such as coffee, snacks, and lunch. In addition to expectations, there were some indeed interesting promotional products and draws to be won that made the event even much better for the guests. Raffle draws held throughout the day are exciting and promote active participation.
The organizing team is commended for careful planning and implementation that ensured a smooth running and enjoyable exercise for all participants.

Reflecting on my participation in SOSCON PH 2024, it is hard to suggest improvements since the event was run with great distinction. I did not experience any critical problems, and the gathering surpassed my expectations. However, I argue that future organizers would do well to seek input from attendees to maintain the high standards set by this conference.
In conclusion, SOSCON PH 2024 was not just an excellent educational experience but also a celebration of the dynamic open source community. I left with a drive to implement all that I had learned. Looking forward to participating in similar events!
